2020 SUMMER SEMINARY SESSION ANNOUNCED: July 20th – July 31st, AD 2020, Online

St.  Joseph of Arimathea Anglican Theological College will again be hosting an intensive Summer Seminary Session from Monday, July 20th through Friday, July 31st, 2020.  Unfortunately, due to the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), St. Joseph’s will host an on-line Summer Seminary Session this year.  The Summer Seminary Session attempts to immerse participants in a typical course of study that would be experienced in a Seminary educational environment.  Participants who register will be sent an invitation to join their daily classes via ZOOM, a platform which both the Council of Bishops and the Seminary have used with much success.  Students can participate with the instructors in real-time and the classes will be recorded for future use.  ZOOM’s new updating with better encryption and security will make this Summer Session possible, even in the midst of a pandemic.  ZOOM is quite easy to use.  There is nothing to download.  Just click your invitation to join the daily classes and ZOOM will download the necessary software to your machine.  Just be sure to have camera and microphone capabilities on your computer, I-pad, phone, etc.

This year’s session is designed specifically for Seminarians and younger (by date of their ordination) clergymen.  Daily classes will be taught Seminar-style.  We will meet for Morning Prayer at 9:00 am PDT, followed by instruction by the faculty until 10:30 am PDT.  At that time students will then work on their specific assignments/coursework to be presented that afternoon to the class, beginning at 3:00 pm PDT through 4:30 pm PDT, when we will hold Evening Prayer/Evensong.

Final Exams will be given out on 31 July during a Summary Session, which will be due no later than August 6th.  We will hold a Final Session Seminar and review of Final Exams together on August 24th from 9:00 am – 11:00 am PDT.

Instructors, this summer, will include The Rt. Rev. Donald M. Ashman, Provost of the Seminary and Bishop Ordinary of the Diocese of the Western States (First Week), and The Most Rev. Dr. John E. Upham, Jr., Archbishop of the APCK (Second Week).  The first week will focus on the 1928 Book of Common Prayer and the second week will focus on Holy Scripture.  It is imperative that all clergymen know these two books thoroughly as they enter the Sacred Ministry!
