Provincial Junior Writers Program Rules

The Junior Writers Program is a two-part contest sponsored by the Anglican Province of Christ the King. All students, age 5 through 14, who are members of a parish in the Province are eligible and encouraged to enter. Topics and deadlines are announced in the Provincial Newsletter by mail and online. Topics are taken from the American Church Union Church School Series used in our parish Sunday Schools.

Cash prizes for the best written work are as follows:

1st Place Student: $250
2nd Place Student: $200
3rd Place Student: $150

1st Place Student's Parish: $500

The parish with the largest number of entries as a % of church school enrolment (minimum 10 enrolled): $500

Two contests will be held sequentially. The winners will compete for the Grand Prize:

1st Place Student: $500
2nd Place Student: $300
3rd Place Student: $200

1st Place Student's Parish: $1,000
The parish with the largest number of entries as a % of church school enrolment: $1,000.

Guidelines:

1. Entries must be received in the Berkeley office by the date stated below or in the Provincial newsletter.

2. Student winners in the first half of the year are not eligible to win in the second half, but are eligible to win the Grand Prize.

3. The Province reserves the right to screen and edit all entries.

4. Entries will be posted (with permission) on the Provincial website on the Junior Writers Page.

5. Entries must not exceed 1,000 words.

6. Entries should reflect the theme of the Church School Lesson, either by retelling the lesson, illustrating the theme with an incident from the student's life, or creating a story or poem based on the theme.

7. A student may enter as many times as he/she wishes, but may only win once in any year (aside from the Grand Prize).
