Junior Writers Contest

Archbishop Robert Morse has announced a new biannual writing contest for APCK Sunday School students ages 6 to 14, which includes cash prizes to both the students and their respective churches. Entries may be poems, essays, or stories, no longer than 1,000 words, dealing with one or more lessons in the ACU Church School Series. Cash prizes for the biannual Junior Writers Contest are $250 for first place, $200 for second place and $150 for third place. In addition, the first place student's congregation will receive $500, and the church with the largest number of entries as a percentage of Sunday School enrollment, with a minimum of ten students enrolled, will receive $500.

Annual prizes, chosen from among the biannual winners will also be awarded. The first place student will receive, $500, with $400 awarded for second place, and $300 awarded for third place. The first place student's church will receive $1,000; and the congregation with the largest number of entries as a percentage of Sunday School enrollment, with a minimum of ten students enrolled, will receive $1,000!

Winners may not resubmit the same year. Age will be considered in the judging, and both clergy and laity will serve as judges.

The first biannual Junior Writers Contest is for the Trinity-Christmas season, and must be submitted as hardcopy or as an e-mail attachment by December 31, 2005. Entries can be based on any of the following ACU Church School Series lessons.

  • Volume I: Lesson 3, Angels, or Lesson 4, Adam and Eve
  • Volume II: Lesson 6, Moses and the Ten Commandments, or Lesson 9, David and Goliath
  • Volume III: Lesson 4, Faithful Ruth, or Lesson 9, Daniel in the Lions Den.
