Canon James Provence Consecrated Bishop Coadjutor

The Rev. Canon James Provence was consecrated Bishop Coadjutor of the Diocese of the Western States on the Feast of St. David, March 1st, 2003, at the Pro-Cathedral of St. Peter in Oakland, California. Archbishop Robert S. Morse was the chief consecrator, and Bishop Frederick Morrison, Ordinary of the Diocese of the Southwestern States, preached at the Mass. Some four hundred people attended the consecration and the reception that followed.

Bishop Provence graduated from St. Joseph of Arimathea Anglican Theological College in 1983. He was the founding rector of All Saints parish in Burlingame, and later served as rector of St. Stephen's in Oakville. He is currently the vicar of St. Thomas' Church in San Francisco. A Canon to the Ordinary of the Diocese of the Western States since 1992, he also serves as the Provincial Vice-Chancellor for Canon Law.
