Rationale for Diocese of the Holy Cross' Unity with the APCK
The clergy and
parishes of the Diocese of the Holy Cross will be formally received into the
Anglican Province of Christ the King, during the upcoming National Clericus in
Berkeley, on October 26, at a Solemn Liturgy at St. Peter's Pro-Cathedral,
Oakland.
Why did the Diocese of the Holy Cross decide to seek union with
the APCK? Fr. David Sprunk gives a number of reasons:
- Jurisdiction. According to the ancient canons, it is
through the Denver consecrations that the lawful and canonical continuing church
exists.
- Stability. The APCK has not suffered the schisms and
infighting that has plagued the rest of the movement.
- Leadership. Archbishop Morse was the head of the
American Church Union prior to the 1976 General Convention, and have always been
a defender of the Catholic faith.
- Solid Growth. The APCK is growing, adding new parishes
and planting new missions every year. A high percentage of parishes have their
own buildings and full-time rectors, with a large development fund to help
others acquire buildings.
- Educational Excellence. The APCK has a first-class
seminary for the training of future priests. It possesses a publishing house
that publishes complete Sunday School and Confirmation materials, the complete
theological series by Francis Hall, and other materials.
- Discipline. The APCK maintains Catholic Discipline.
- Fidelity to the Affirmation of St. Louis. The APCK
upholds and boldly proclaims the Catholic faith as contained in the Affirmation,
the seven Sacraments, seven Ecumenical Councils, etc. It does not compromise
with those who want a 'comprehensive' church that contains differing
theologies.
